academy performance assessments
Performance Assessments are great preparation for structured graded examinations in acting or singing. Our Assessments teach the same basic skills as are found in graded exams, but without the added pressure of performing in a strict examination environment. This makes them ideal for students who are not yet ready to take formal exams and also for students who want simple guidance on their performance in a more relaxed environment, or who are working towards a formal exam.
Assessments are available at three stages:

about the benefits
Pupils at The Academy can choose to take a Performance Assessment in either singing or acting, to gain valuable feedback on their performing-arts education.
Some of the aspects covered by the Assessments are:
· Performance of one piece/monologue · Diction · Projection · Ability to Communicate Emotion · Staying in character · Posture/Eye contact · Aural tests (singing only) · Imaginative Question and Answer (acting only) · Overall Performance. about the feedback |
There is no pass or fail grade, just written feedback on the performance to help the student develop and progress in the performing arts. The children will also be given a certificate marking the completion of their Assessment, as a symbol of their achievement.
about the three stages
At each of the different levels of Assessment, pupils should demonstrate the following:
Preparatory: Basic understanding of tonality (singing), rhythm and mood. The child should be able to listen and understand the Aural or Question and Answer assessment and answer correctly and, where necessary, imaginatively.
Intermediate: A stronger grasp of the basics of rhythm, projection and diction. The performance should be consistent with the emotion portrayed and the child should effectively remain 'in character'. Overall musicality should be good (where appropriate).
Advanced: Recommended for older students wishing to pursue the arts to a high level. Answers should be quick and perceptive. Basic mistakes should be avoided and the student should demonstrate a good understanding of the song/show/play as appropriate.
