news & projects: see what we've been up to...
Since our opening in 2008, we have been proud to raise more than £10,000 for charities and other worthy causes. Here is a list of some of the ways we were able to give something back:
09/07/12 Words Work A number of our Junior pupils competed in the first Words Work Speech and Drama Tournament, organised by the TARGET Drama Support Service. The event was a huge success and we hope to make the Tournament a yearly addition to our calendar.
07/07/12 A Midsummer Night's Dream Our Newport school performed a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's classic, as part of the World Shakespeare Festival celebrations.
01/04/12 Fundraiser for the Stroke Association The students from Newport and Abergavenny joined together to compete in a talent competition in aid of the Stroke Association. Some fantastic prizes were on offer - and some fantastic performances were enjoyed by all.
17/07/11 Summer Extravaganza Our pupils performed at the Congress Theatre in Cwmbran, showcasing no less than 10 original children's musicals.
10/04/11 Sparkle Appeal Junior pupils from the Llanover Academy branch performed the original musical Sparkle and Shine! in aid of The Sparkle Appeal. The morning raised a fantastic £160!
01/11/10 "90 Years of Music" The Academy students from both branches came together to perform in a Gala concert to celebrate the Academy's second birthday, and our wonderful Patron's eighty-fifth birthday. Featuring songs from 1920-2010, it was a fantastic evening. Well done to all involved.
18/07/10 Llanover Parish Church Pupils from the Llanover Academy branch performed the original musical The Little Hedgehog's Journey in a showcase in aid of Llanover Parish Church's fundraiser for a new roof. The morning was a huge success and raised £75.30 to assist with this very vital cause!
12/03/10 Don't Give Up! The Academy students were recently involved in the Don't Give Up! charity project in aid of Tenovus Cancer Charity (Registered Charity No. 1054015). With over 1000 of South Wales' young people involved in the project, it has was a fantastic experience. To view the Don't Give Up! music video, click here.
17/05/09 Think Pink Academy pupils were involved in a concert and fashion show to raise money for Cancer Research UK's It's a Girl Thing campaign for breast cancer awareness.
